The Video:

Bay Area rising star Caleborate displays his effortless charisma and charm in the new video for “‘08 (Carter Flow), premiered today by REVOLT, as he takes us on a tour of the North Bay, interspersing wide angle shots with home-movie style clips. The track finds Caleborate riding his “’08 Lil Wayne Carter flow” over soulful production, bragging about his prodigious ability behind the mic and his hunger for success: “A couple hot songs, couple new features, same broke-ass/ mindset, blind cause Mom ain’t seein’ dollar signs yet.” The audio of “08” was premiered by EARMILK, who praised the track saying, who praised the track saying, “Caleb delivers with two heartfelt verses that showcase his adept wordplay and unfaltering sense of confidence,” the “’08” video is a perfect appetizer for Caleborate’s upcoming 1993project, set to release August 29th.

“We filmed the video mostly in Pinole and San Pablo,” explains Caleborate. “It’s where my aunt lives and where many of my friends live so it was convenient for us to all link up in that area. Everywhere we shot are all spots where you might catch any of us roaming around on any given day – grabbing food and chopping it up about life, music, anything.”

Last week, Caleborate shared the VIBEpremiered 1993 single “Options,” a soulful summer jam with halting, chopped up production from Cal-A and guest spots from Pell and Sylvan LaCue. Following up his acclaimed 2015 release Hella Good1993 combines nostalgia for the 23-year-old rapper’s childhood with reflections on modern life, exploring Caleborate’s unique generational point-of-view through varied production and complex lyrical themes. Featuring production from P-LoMikos Da Gawd, HBK’s Kuya Beats, Cal-A, and Julia Lewis, 1993 represents a step forward for Caleborate and is an excellent entry point for new fans.

Born and raised in Sacramento, Caleborate built his considerable fanbase online, eventually growing big enough to earn a mention on the 2014 edition of The Thizzler‘s Bay Area Freshman 10, which has featured luminaries such as Nef Tha PharaohIAMSU!, and Sage The Gemini. In 2015, Caleborate collaborated with G-Eazy for the track “Want It All” and released his album Hella Good, which received praise from Pigeons & Planes, The Source, and SF Weekly, which named it the Best Hip-Hop Album of the Bay Area for 2015.

1993 officially releases on August 29th.
