Album: Philthy Rich – Hood Rich 4

The Seminary Money Man Returns with His Fifth Full-Length of the Year, Shares Video For “Motivate The Hood”

Critical Praise for Philthy Rich

“With a decade-long career, ties to his region’s old guard, and a clever affection for delivery surrounded by repetitive earworm hooks, Philthy’s grown from a Mac Dre-affiliate into a venerable heavyweight of the Yay Area revival sound.”Mass Appeal

“A veteran in the Bay Area rap scene, Philthy Rich built a reputation as the Bay Area’s Gucci Mane because of his drug-fueled, yet down-to-earth, rhymes, his prolific output, and his relationships with the best street rappers and producers.”HipHopDX

“The Oakland native has been working hard lately and been dropping some fire music.”XXL

The Album:

A prolific, straight-talking hustler with a outsized stature in the streets, Philthy Rich is one of the Oakland’s most well-connected and respected emcees. Flexing over Southern-style instrumentals from the likes of ZaytovenSpiffy, RJ Lamont, Cassius Jay, and Shawty Fresh, Philthy makes up the difference between Bay Area street music and ATL-style trap with Hood Rich 4. A 22-track opus with a long list of guest stars, Hood Rich 4 touches on the realities of street living, making it out of the hood, and giving back to the community you come from. Featuring appearances from Birdman, B.o.B, G. Herbo, Shy Glizzy, Young Dolph, Young Greatness, Doughboyz Cashout, Jim Jones, Casey Veggies, Rockie Fresh, Fat Trel, Skeme, Sauce WalkaSosamann, Icewear Vezzo, Kash Doll, and more, Hood Rich 4 is available to purchase on iTunes and stream on Spotify.

Hood Rich 4 is the famously prolific Oakland rapper’s fifth full-length of the year. It follows February’s Real N*ggas Back in $tyle and June’s SemCity MoneyMan, as well as two full-length collaborative albums, American Greed with Maybach Music signee Yowda and Political Ties with fellow Bay Area street icon Mozzy. Prior to the release of Hood Rich 4, Philthy treated his fans to numerous pre-released singles and videos, including the FADER-premiered video for  “Fuck I Look Like,” which features Detroit rapper Kash Doll, as well as Money In The Trap,” the Mass Appeal-premiered single with verses from Los Angeles’ Casey Veggies, Chicago’s Rockie Fresh, and D.C.’s Fat Trel. Last week, Philthy Rich revisited RNBI$ with the “Same N*gga” Remix, featuring NOLA rappers Young Greatness and Magnolia Chop.

To accompany the album, Philthy shares a visual for “Motivate The Hood,” the album’s opening track. Produced by RJ Lamont, “Motivate The Hood” is a rider’s anthem, with Philthy riding a modified triplet flow over foreboding keys, swirling snares, and jittering hi-hats. The video finds Philthy living the life of luxury, partying in a Miami mansion with Birdman and Jim Jones, turning his whip into a strip club, and stunting aboard a yacht. “I put this song first on the album because it’s the best solo record,” explains Philthy Rich. “As someone who is from the hood, I want to give back and let people know that you can make it out alive and thrive. No matter where you come from, live it up!  (note: there are scenes of him partying in the club with Jim Jones and hanging with Birman at his house).”
