Remix: Philthy Rich – “Piss Codeine (Remix)” ft. Kevin Gates, Young Dolph & Icewear Vezzo (Prod. by Zaytoven)

The Bay Area’s Gucci Mane Revisits The Real N*ggaz Back In $tyle Opening Track with an All-Star Remix

Critical Praise for Philthy Rich

“With a decade-long career, ties to his region’s old guard, and a clever affection for delivery surrounded by repetitive earworm hooks, Philthy’s grown from a Mac Dre-affiliate into a venerable heavyweight of the Yay Area revival sound.”Mass Appeal

The Remix:

Piss Codeine,” the opening track from Oakland rapper Philthy Rich‘s latest mixtape Real N*ggas Back in $tyle, is a classic Zaytoven-produced trap banger, combining the ATL sound architect’s signature organ-and-kick-drum aesthetic with Philthy Rich’s East Oakland realness, further cementing the musical railway between the Bay and the Dirty South. For the remix, Rich recruited street rap warriors Kevin GatesYoung Dolph, and Icewear Vezzo to rhyme about their relationship with their favorite vice: syrup. “This is a buffet of great rappers,” writes Noisey in today’s premiere of the remix. “A who’s who of artists with the strongest indie cred and most organic fanbases.

“For me, the best time to drink syrup is when I’m in the studio,” explains Philthy Rich. “I usually mix it with A&W cream soda, pineapple Fanta, or Peach Crush. I started sipping syrup after I got shot. I couldn’t sleep and I was always paranoid, so I started sipping it more and more until I was using it daily. Contrary to what you’d think, it doesn’t slow me down, it actually gives me momentum. I’m already driven and motived, so it mellows me out and makes me more productive.”

A veteran in the Bay Area rap scene, Philthy Rich built a reputation as the Bay Area’s Gucci Mane because of his drug-fueled, yet down-to-earth, rhymes, his prolific output, and his relationships with the best street rappers and producers.

Explains Philthy Rich, “I’ve had an existing relationship with Dolph and Vezzo, but I met Kevin Gates recently in Arizona. Over the course of our conversation, he said he recognized what I was doing and that he’d do a record with me. That taught me that even if you don’t think your work is getting noticed, it is. I’ve been getting hit up a lot by people who are much bigger than me and it’s dope.”

The “Piss Codeine” remix follows the video for Philthy Rich’s “Feeling Rich Today” featuring Mozzy andSauce Twinz, which garnered more than 550K views on YouTube. Earlier, WorldStarHipHop premiered the videos for “Way Before” and “Piss Codeine,” both produced by Zaytoven, and “Broke Boy,” featuring Young Dolph. In the lead up to Real N*ggas Back in $tyle, Philthy Rich shared a series of singles starting with music videos for the IAMSU-assisted money-making anthem “Make A Living,” which gained more than one million Soundcloud streams, and trunk-thumping Young Scooter collab “Buss Down (Right Now).” In honor of his long-time friend, Bay Area rapper The Jacka, Philthy Rich commemorated the respected rapper on the one year anniversary of his passing alongside Paul Wall and Freeway with “King Jack,” which debuted via Noisey. He teamed up with a “murderer’s row,” as Complex called it, of local talent with “Statue of Liberty,” featuring E-40, Nef The Pharaoh, and Ezale. Philthy Rich’s Real N*ggas Back In $tyle, the first in a series of three albums with the same title, is currently available for purchase at iTunes and streaming on Spotify. Philthy Rich’s latest project, SemCity MoneyMan 4, available for streaming on Soundcloud
