MP3: ProbCause – “Chicago Style” (ft. Twista) (Breakscience & Mike Irish Remix)

The Chicago Rapper Enlists Brooklyn-based Producers For a Remix From His Forthcoming Drifters EP

Critical Praise for ProbCause:

“ProbCause nimbly rides fusion-friendly hip-hop tracks; there’s the DJ Screwed-up dubstep buzzer ‘Ego Trip’ and the ecstatic rap-rock track ‘Neon Dreams.'” – SPIN

“He’s a great rapper who you can imagine killing it at open mics, cyphers and old-school styled club nights.” –  PotholesInMyBlog

“You’ll find WAVES incorporates several different genres within it’s overall hip-hop vibe– electronic, rock, and blues are some of the other elements tapped…” – HotNewHipHop

“The rising rapper […] has continued to dominate his own lane… Prob will have you locked in.” – XXL

“…just one conversation with ProbCause is enough to make you realize that he’s deeper than even his most serious lyrics suggest.” –

“The lanky MC’s vocal gymnastics have an elastic flow… he raps like a fan in the crowd hollering at the DJ to pump up the volume.” – Chicago Reader

“It’s diverse, veering from slower flows erring in the sub-genre of jazz-rap to hard-hitting, hard-spitting electro-rap. It’s a perfect summer project…” – HillyDilly

“In Chicago and beyond, ProbCause is one to watch. His skills, creativity and persona are refreshing and unlike much else. There is a spin on everything that sounds and feels distinctly his. In both the rap game and the art world he is changing the rules.” –

The Song:

While prepping his upcoming Drifters EP, ProbCause releases the remix to his Twista-featured single, “Chicago Style,” debuted by ThisSongIsSick. Remixed by NYC electronic duo Breakscience with additional work by Mike Irish, the track is an upbeat rendition of ProbCause’s WAVES original. Treated with arpeggiated synths, half-time drum kits, and a prominent synth bass, the track is transformed from its previous banger to an electronic powerhouse. With moments of French House influence, the single additionally has a break-down with the popular four-on-the-floor rhythm pattern native to dance and electronic music before returning to ProbCause’s last chorus. The remix to “Chicago Style” follows the rapper’s Consequence of Sound-premiered single, “I Feel U.” On the Drifters EP track, ProbCause is in his comfort zone with loose-lipped, carefree raps atop glimmering keyboard taps, deep bass booms, and thumping percussion that lay the groundwork for the track that was co-produced by ProbCause and DRO.

ProbCause’s forthcoming Drifters EP, which is set to release in August, serves as the followup to last year’s Chance the RapperDonnie Trumpet, and Twista-featured WAVES, and the collaborative ZRO FOX EP with fellow Chicago rapper Psalm One that released earlier this yearThe project displayed a range of hip-hop, trap, and wavy electro-spirited cuts, showing a musical chemistry that reached new creative heights. “The EP offers plenty of thought-provoking rhymes and intense production for fans of alt-leaning hip-hop,” said Consequence of Sound in their premiere post. Following a tour with Lil Dicky that concluded last month, ProbCause will be headlining several tour dates of his own in September. Tickets are available here.
