Video: Cali Rapper Rey Resurreccion Drops First Single And Accompanying Video From Upcoming Album

Rey Resurreccion’s “Let It Bang,” From Forthcoming Heart of the City, Is A Classic Cali Summer Anthem

The Video:

The San Jose recording artist and producer Rey Resurreccion is quickly rising in the Bay Area music scene. Heavy synths, hard drums, and nostalgic samples are layered with cool, smooth vocals to create what Rey dubs as his “Old Rust New Bang” sound. As well as using the internet to create a strong fan base, Rey Res has opened for many top artists, including Souls of Mischief, Bone Thugs N Harmony and Hieroglyphics, the last of which he toured with on their 2012 summer tour.

Premiered via HipHopDX, Rey Res released the first single and video off of his upcoming album, Heart of the City. “Let it Bang” is full of classic California shots of beaches, skateboarders, and old school cars, serving as a reminder that there is no better place to be than California in the summertime. “You know all the stuff that you heard everyone rapping about in the ’90s when the West coast scene was young and thriving?” Says Rey, “I suddenly get that feeling when the summertime rolls around.” “Let it Bang” definitely encompasses the feeling Rey Res refers too, and allows listeners to feel it too.

Rey Res samples Dru Down’s classic, “Pimp of the Year” on this track. Exemplifying his “Old Rust New Bang” style, Rey found the sample and was able to write his own lyrics and match them to the rhyme scheme and cadence of the original song, due to his familiarity with the track. He refers to his style of music as “Paying homage to the ones who paved the way and still trying to keep things moving forward.” This song has a classic golden era sound, but the production is progressive and forward moving, making it a classic example of Rey Res’ unique style. “Let it Bang” can be bought via iTunes.
