The News:

Having earned a reputation as a wildlife advocate and lover of nature, it should come as no surprise that Sir Michael Rocks has announced his retirement from rap after landing his own reality series, The Rocks Report, on National Geographic. Upon moving to Miami in 2013, the Cool Kids rapper adopted a baby monkey, and a few months ago advised Buzzfeed of “13 Beasties That Would Make Great Besties.” Sir Michael Rocks also teamed up with PETA in their protests of SeaWorld, as MTV reported he “was serious about going to war for the whales.”

In the pilot episode of The Rocks Report, National Geographic follows Sir Michael Rocks as he navigates some of Florida’s most populated wildlife reserves. Venturing into a monkey jungle to “hang out with some of the locals,” Sir Michael Rocks asserts himself into the monkey hierarchy, getting up close and personal as he displays his expertise in handling. “I would just like to thank Nat Geo for helping create this experience,” Rocks expressed with full enthusiasm for a new chapter in his career. “As a long time animal lover and researcher I am honored to have an institution such as National Geographic believe in me and help push this portion of my career forward. This will be a fun ride and I can’t wait for the world to watch.”

Growing up as the youngest of three in his family outside of Chicago, Sir Michael Rocks developed a lifelong interest in the outdoors. Nature looms as an influence in his music, as Rocks infused the creativity, strength, and beauty he found in settings like the beach, the deep sea, and the woods into his art. Rocks’ 2014 album, Banco, saw a quick rise to the #1 spot on iTunes’ hip-hop charts, also reaching the top spot on Billboard‘s HeatSeekers chart. The album evokes Rocks’ wealth of creativity, passion, intellect, and style, all elements of his unmistakable persona soon to hit television screens.

Catch Sir Michael Rocks on his final tour, which starts on April 11 in Pensacola, Florida.

Sir Michael Rocks Background:

Sir Michael Rocks has always been a little ahead of his time, a little more original than his peers, a little bit more creative. As a teenager, he started making music under the name Mikey Rocks as one half of groundbreaking duo The Cool Kids. Formed over the Internet and powered by a strong grassroots fanbase online, the group helped redefine the image of rap for the Internet era with an effortlessly cool throwback style and an iconic, laid-back fashion sense. Rechristening himself as Sir Michael Rocks in 2011, the restlessly creative artist, now based in Miami after time spent in Chicago and LA, has been pushing the boundaries of rap originality even further in recent years with a string of popular, critically acclaimed mixtapes. His debut solo album, Banco, is available now.
