The Video:

“My food, perfect. Bitch, perfect. My view, perfect. I am perfect. You are perfect.” Sir Michael Rocks manifests positive vibes with his reflective track “Perfect” from his upcoming album Populair, due September 11th. Heavily based in video game start up music, the song’s droning synth lines and hard-hitting hood bass and 808s perfectly match the trippy visual. The video, which A.V. Club premiered, digs deep into his obsession with video games, showing a pixelated Sir Mike actually coming to life IN a Street Fighter video game.

Taking more control over the production and creation of this album more so than with his debut solo album BancoPopulair is the next step in Sir Michael Rocks’ evolution and growth as a creative. Whereas Banco featured guest artists Twista, Mac Miller, and Iamsu! the more personal and retrospective Populair features no guests. Together Banco and the forthcoming Populair album create Banco Populair and reference to the Spanish financial institution of the same name.

Sir Michael Rocks Background:

Sir Michael Rocks has always been a little ahead of his time, a little more original than his peers, a little bit more creative. As a teenager, he started making music under the name Mikey Rocks as one half of groundbreaking duo The Cool Kids. Formed over the Internet and powered by a strong grassroots fanbase online, the group helped redefine the image of rap for the Internet era with an effortlessly cool throwback style and an iconic, laid-back fashion sense. Rechristening himself as Sir Michael Rocks in 2011, the restlessly creative artist, now based in Miami after time spent in Chicago and LA, has been pushing the boundaries of rap originality even further in recent years with a string of popular, critically acclaimed mixtapes. His debut solo album, Banco, released in 2014.
