Mixtape: Roach Gigz – Roachy Balboa III

New Mixtape From Roach Gigz Premieres On The FADER, Available For Free Download Now

Critical Praise for Roach Gigz:

“The funniest rapper working.” – The New York Times

“There’s a…clever mania to his style.” – Complex

“Here’s to the new age of rap. And Roach Gigz. Who is awesome.” – The FADER

The Mixtape:

Today, The FADER is premiering the newest mixtape from San Francisco rapper Roach Gigz, titled Roachy Balboa III.  The mixtape has a lot to live up to as the third installment of the Roachy Balboa mixtape series, as the first two tapes were largely popular and received well by the FADER and Pitchfork.  The immense amount of preparation from Roach for the mixtape (he put out four videos from RBIII before it’s release) built up a huge anticipation for it throughout the hip-hop community.

The long list of guest features doesn’t hurt, either.  “I just kept it to people I actually fuck with personally, like I usually do” Roach says of the guests on Roachy Balboa III, including “of course the Goomba Gang, my bro Iamsu!Clyde CarsonKool John, my friend Kreayshawn, and my singing bro 1.O.A.K.”  Remedy, Pac B, and Marlow also make appearances on the tape.

Out of the mixtape’s seventeen songs, Roach lists some standout tracks being “Don’t Forget The Gigz”, “How I Feel”, and the single “It’s Lit” featuring Iamsu!, but insists that he cannot pick a favorite.  Roach believes that he’s grown since his last release of the Roachy Balboa series, and promises that on his new mixtape he doesn’t worry himself with making sure to touch on every subject, but just rapping about what comes naturally.  The variety of different producers that assist on the mixtape, including Nima Fadavi, DJ Two Stacks, Nick Catchdubs, P-Lo, C-Loz, and Trev Case make each track on the release more diverse than his previous two Roachy Balboas.  “I think musically, this is one of my best releases” Roach says of the new tape.  “I think the whole project separates me from the pack, honestly.  I might rap about some of the same shit everybody enjoys…I just do it cooler.”

Roach Gigz Background:

Hailed by The New York Times as “the funniest rapper working” and selected by 106 KMEL as part of the radio station’s inaugural Freshman 10 class, 24-year-old San Francisco native Roach Gigz has become of the Bay Area’s brightest young stars, covered by outlets like Pitchfork, FADER, XXL, MTV2 Sucker Free, mtvU, and many more. Heavily influenced by Mac Dre and the homegrown hip-hop scene that permeated the Bay Area during the 2000s, Roach has taken a similar approach to his music, telling everyday tales, comical but always true-to-life. Roach Gigz first gained local fame with close friend Lil 4Tay, as one half of the group Bitch I Go (B.I.G.), and since has released two successful Roachy Balboa mixtapes and a debut EP, Bitch, I’m A Player. To date, Roach Gigz has garnered well over five million YouTube views, amassed over 70,000 fans on Facebook, and has over 18,000 followers on Twitter. Now, following the release of Roach’s 2012 album, Bugged Out, and a national tour in 2013 opening for Andre Nickatina, Roach will release Roachy Balboa III, the latest installment in his acclaimed Roachy Balboa mixtape series. Roachy Balboa III will be released for free download on July 25th.
