MP3: Tommy Brown – “Habits” ft. Nastasia

Debuted by VIBE, the Acclaimed L.A. via Pittsburgh Producer/Rapper Shares His Addictions On Latest Single

The Song:

Following the Travi$ Scott and Eric Bellinger-assisted “Trippin On Me,” 5x platinum Pittsburgh-bred, L.A.-based producer/rapper Tommy Brown further exemplifies his knack for crafting trendy, topical songs with “Habits.” The beatmaker-turned-rapper boasts about his addiction to the finer things – money, jewelry, cars, designer clothes – while vocal effects and samples accompany layered synths for a voluminous production. The track, which features singer Nastasia, premiered via VIBE, who said that the “intricate instrumental mixed with a weighty bass will fit perfectly on your playlist for those late summer nights or as your new pumped-up anthem.”

“Pressure bust pipes or makes diamonds and I’m in the diamond business,” Tommy Brown told VIBE. “I’ve always done trendy music but I always want to put something in the song that makes it different. When the video for habits drop everybody will see!” Tommy Brown is taking on a new branch in his musical career as a rapper while still staking his claim as one of today’s top producers and most influential tastemakers. In addition to some recent studio sessions with Ariana Grande, Tommy Brown produced the latest single from Machine Gun Kelly, “A Little More,” which features singer/songwriter Victoria Monét and hit #1 on Billboard‘s hip-hop singles charts. These latest collaborations follow last year’s work on Ariana Grande’s My Everything, T.I.‘s “New National Anthem” and “Stay,” and Chris Brown/Jhene Aiko‘s “Drunk Texting.”

Tommy Brown Background:

Tommy Brown wants to rewrite the music industry rulebook. The super producer, who has supplied marquee artists like Ariana Grande, T.I. and Chris Brown with boundary-shifting tracks, spent the past few years surveying the scene and witnessed how difficult it can be for up-and-comers to connect with more notable writers and producers. His solution: create the Facebook of the music community, where newer musicians can pay various price points and access exclusive instrumentals and get their music heard by a wider audience. In 2012, he signed with BMI, which in turn led to an independent production deal with Sony ATV. Since then, he’s become one of the hottest producers across genres, helming T.I.’s “New National Anthem,” G.O.O.D. Music’s “Sin City,” and four songs on Grande’s chart-topping sophomore album My Everything.
